To a very dear friend

Charlie, your energy is and was unmatched. That grin and smile could light up an entire room and I had never met anyone on my journey who had the light you had.

My nickname for Charlie was chuckles. And it was hilarious how this came about. He wasn’t the biggest fan of me calling him this but as time went on he grew accustomed to it and low key loved it. His cheeks would get all red and he’d get that look in his eye like hux if you introduce me to another girl as chuckles imma hurt you. Haha. It only made me do it more, true older brother energy.

To all of you who do not know me, my name is Hunter Whitfield. Charlie and the rest of the music industry calls me Hux. I run an event collective and record label in San Diego called Boogie Mob. Charlie was the first artist I sought out to work with and to help me build a team of talented individuals who had a like minded goal of bringing a specific genre to the San Diego music scene. See here in San Diego, the prominent music genre is house music. Charlie and i’s commonly loved and preferred genre is bass music. We had a niche place in the scene here since no one else was performing this genre and that’s why I picked Charlie. He was unique, he was passionate and he knew what good music was. Charlie introduced me to half the team we have now on Boogie Mob. He is and will forever be a key component to this entire movement I have.

Charlie to me was my little brother. I have little brothers of my own who I love dearly but in scene terms they aren’t really on my

Level of music and interests. Charlie was. He filled this space I had in my life that I longed for and it was so special the time we spent and had pursuing this dream we both shared. This void can never be replaced by anyone else and it’s something I really wish he was able to see come to fruition.

I introduced Charlie to the music scene, I pushed him to make music, I pushed him to perform and I got him booked for countless shows with me. People knew if I was playing, Charlie would be there either playing or screaming words of affirmation from the crowd. As a friend, that’s gonna be hard to not hear but I do know you are there always beside me.

I keep thinking Charlie is just gonna pop out somewhere and run up to me and hug me like he always did screaming huxxxx in a deep tone and commenting on how stoked he was that day. That is something I’m gonna miss the most.

Charlie was one of the best friends a friend could have. So genuine, so caring, so giving, so loving and best of all so fun. Charlie loved his family so much as do I and knowing I got to meet his family is something I really wish he got to see. He was there when I met Connor, what a fun night haha. But he wasn’t there when I met his dad. Even though under such unfortunate circumstances I really loved meeting the man Charlie always told me I had to meet. Charlie you have a very special place in my heart and I will forever make it my duty to carry out our dream and make sure it comes full circle of life.

To my best friend, to my lil bro, to my partner, I love you with all my heart and I cannot wait to perform with you again.

Best,

Hux

"Over the last year, it seems like @mattox_music has played practically every venue in San Diego. Serving clubs and parties all over SD with his killer sets, we are so excited for him to bring his infectious energy to Iridescent!

Rooted in bass and riddim and expanding his sound as a DJ to cover all your favorite house hits, his range is apparent and tunes are guaranteed to get you groovin 🕺🏻"
